Lake Charlie Fishing Platform

Those visitors to Tosohatchee WMA should try to make the extra effort to travel Fish Hole road all the way to Lake Charlie if they have the time.  I often go to this management area and start a hike closer to the entrance because I do not have sufficient time to travel 20-25 minutes each way and still get a two hour hike in, so it is not often I make it that far.

This is probably part of the reason there is less traffic to be seen in this south west corner of the area, and usually only one or two (if any) folks fishing at Lake Charlie.  Anyone who has not been out there within the past couple of months will be surprised to find that there is a new (and very impressive) fishing platform along with two covered picnic areas and a permanent toilet building (sorry…no running water).

This improvement was just recently completed and  was funded by Tallahassee directive from my understanding.  I fear it will not get much use since during my many trips to Tosohatchee, I have seldom seen many individuals fishing the lake.  This could be good for those who are able to spend a little time in that area however since even if you are not fishing, the platform makes an excellent observation deck for watching the birds (and possibly an alligator or two).

If you have the time and are in the area, be sure to put a trip to this latest addition on your agenda and remember to pack out what you pack in since there are no trash collection facilities in this wildlife management area.

Enjoy….smiley
